Every community thrives on respect, and nudist resorts are no different. In fact, because nudism is built on trust, body freedom, and privacy, etiquette matters even more. Whether you’re new to the lifestyle or a seasoned visitor, here are the 10 unwritten rules of nudist etiquette to keep in mind.

1. Bring a Towel Everywhere

The “golden rule” of nudism: no bare bottoms on shared surfaces. Always carry a towel to sit on; whether at the pool, the clubhouse, or the cabanas.

2. Respect Privacy

Never take photos or videos without permission. Many people value discretion, and violating this trust is a quick way to lose your welcome.

3. No Public Sexual Activity

Nudism ≠ exhibitionism. Resorts like Barefoot Hollow are about community, nature, and freedom, not sexual behavior.

4. Don’t Stare or Gawk

Curiosity is normal, but keep your eyes respectful. Think of it the same way as interacting with anyone at a public beach or gym.

5. Respect Personal Boundaries

Ask before hugging, joining a conversation, or sitting next to someone. Consent matters, even in simple social interactions.

6. Keep It Clean

Shower before swimming, pick up after yourself, and respect resort facilities. Cleanliness is part of respect.

7. Dress as Needed

While nudity is the norm, bring a light wrap or cover-up for dining areas if you prefer or if the weather turns. Comfort is key, not rules about being “nude 24/7.”

8. Mind Your Behavior

Harassment, intimidation, or aggressive behavior won’t be tolerated. Nudism thrives in safe, peaceful environments.

9. Be Inclusive

Everyone is welcome, regardless of age (21+ at Barefoot Hollow), background, or body type. A smile and friendly hello go a long way.

10. Relax and Be Yourself

Don’t overthink it. Nudist etiquette is about mutual respect and enjoying the freedom of simply being.
